UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA'S CAROLINA GARDEN COOP "GROW DOWN"

April 24, 2009

A SPRING CELEBRATION

.

April is a perfect month for enjoying the outdoors and celebrating the many small farms and gardens that nourish us.  The Carolina Garden Coop at the University of North Carolina invited Bob to their version of a Ho Down because he gave a presentation on composting a while back.

The venue was perfect for relaxing and enjoying a beautiful day.

RITES OF SPRING

The organizers planned enough events to keep everyone happy and involved, from face painting to daisy chain making.

BAKE TABLE AND CEMENT PIES

One of the first things to catch our eyes was a table laden with baked goods.  Meanwhile, a small group was busily making jeweled garden stepping stones with concrete in aluminum pie tins.

SQUARE DANCING

Bob and Camille swung themselves around for a little while before going to sit down in the shade.

A CAKE WALK

Camille entered herself in her first Cake Walk to see what it was all about.  The musicians played while the players walked around a large circle of numbered pieces of paper.  There was one more person than number.  When the music stopped, we all jumped to a number and waited to hear the winner called.  The winner was whoever stood on the winning number.  Whoever didn't reach a number in time had to leave the game and the winning number was taken away.

AND PLASTIC CUPS

Everyone welcomed us and made us feel at home.  This young lady made us laugh by facetiously extolling the attributes of a plastic cup.
