DIZZY BAT - A GAME OF COORDINATION, SKILLS, SPILLS AND PLENTY OF LAUGHTER

At Bart and Kate's Farewell Party, July 25, 2009

CHUG, SPIN & BAT

Upon our arrival, Bart explained the rules of Dizzy Bat, our featured post dinner game.  Jack shows how its done.

Here are the rules as we played it:

1. Appoint a person with a timer to time each player.  Time begins when you start to drink and ends when you hit the can.

2. Pour some beer into a plastic bat that has had the end cut off.  12 ounces for the men, 6 ounces for the ladies.

3. Drink the beer from the bat as quickly as possible while onlookers count out loud "one-Mississippi, two-Mississippi" and so on

4. Place the bat on the ground and spin around it with your head on the handle as many times as it took in seconds to drink your beer

5. Stand up (try not to fall down) and use the bat to hit a beer can the pitcher throws at you.

SERIOUSLY FUNNY

As spectators, Dizzy Bat was silly and entertaining but when it came time to play, we had keep our wits about us.

TACKLING IT HEAD ON

Jason was first up and got a bat full of foam but kept after it until he had drained the bat.  From his experience, we learned that a lot of foam is impossible to drink quickly and so began to decant the beer from can to glass before pouring it into the bat.

GOOD FORM

As per usual, Adah did a fine job even after waiving her right to pour only half a beer into the bat.

STYLING

Bart and Caleb demonstrate their drinking styles while Phil looks on.

GRACE IN MOTION

Years of dancing made it easy for Haruka to handle the spinning part but she (gracefully) lost a little of her balance after standing back up.

DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS

The ever lovely Kate tackled the job with aplomb and laughter.  Click on the picture of her chugging beer from the baseball bat for a closer look.

KEEPING A COOL HEAD

Brian made the second best time for chugging, spinning and batting.  Which reminds us of the old joke about the two bulls.  An old bull and a young bull are walking along when they top a rise and look down to see a whole herd of heifers.  Excited by the prospect of romance, the young bull says, "Let's run down and get us a cow!"  "No," the old bull responds, "Let's walk down and get 'em all."

GIVING IT SOME LIP

Mary Beth's finished with a great time.  Her secret was to put her lips over the entire opening of the bat.

A FINE PROPOSAL

Andy surprised us all by announcing that he and Jill are planning to get married and proceeded to down his bat full of beer.

TAKING A TURN

By the time we got to Matt's name on the list it was past sundown.

    HOME RUN

If this had been a real game, Dave would have gotten a home run!

VIP - VALENTINE IN PARTY

It is always great to see Val and you might say that a party isn't a party until he arrives.

GOOD SPORTS

Moya and Elise put their names on the list as soon as they arrived and gave it a go.

OH, WHAT THE HECK

Phil had somewhere to drive to after the party and resisted playing the game until he could resist no longer.

GOOD INTENTIONS

You know the road to hell is paved with them.  Modeling herself after Mary Beth, Camille attempted to wrap her lips around the bat and found that it didn't save her from getting a nose full of foam.

Bad form on the spin (later corrected) and a couple of tries before hitting the beer can added to Camille's smile of relief when all was done.

THE CHAMP

Bob ended up with the best time of the evening.  First he asked Ian, the time keeper to start the timer when when he placed his lips to the bat. Then he proceeded to drink his beer in three seconds.

Brian and Dave could tell Bob was going to do well.  Brian had the second best time.  Oh, those old guys - they really know how to drink beer!  Bob shows perfect spinning form and a triumphant smile after hitting the beer can.
